В сгущающихся сумерках дорогу мне перебежал…хомяк. Ни кошка, ни собака, ни пресловутая баба с ведрами, в условиях города мимикрировавшая в таджичку-уборщицу. Хомяк.
От удивления остановилась и жадно глядела ему вслед. Нет, не мышь, не бесхвостая крыса. Рыжеватая спинка, грязные лапы, неуклюжая походка. Хомяк.
«Интересно, а это хорошая примета?»
Хотелось бы хорошую. Хомяки запасливые. Забавные. Их же специально заводят, чтобы в колесе крутились, радовали. Или это про белок? Да черт с ними! Примета точно к добру! А значит, я скоро найду работу. И муж подуется-подуется и вернется. Позвонит сегодня же, вот увидишь.
Я улыбнулась и пошла дальше. Мимо ювелирных магазинов, стихийного рынка, автобусных остановок, довольная неожиданной встречей…
А хомяк деловито почесывался, укрывшись под одной из чудом выживших близ метро палаток. И его было абсолютно не волновали ни приметы, ни то, что его, строго говоря, нужно было бы назвать морской свинкой. Он был свободен.
И чесался. У свободы тоже была своя цена.
